What are the precautions for installing American standard ball valves?

When installing American standard ball valves, to ensure their normal operation and long-term reliability, the following key points should be noted:

I. Preparations before Installation

1. Inspect the valves and pipelines:

Confirm that the specifications and models of the American standard ball valve are consistent with the design requirements, and check whether the valve is intact without cracks, sand holes or other defects.

Clean the interior of the pipeline to remove oil stains, welding slag, iron filings and other impurities, to prevent these impurities from damaging the valve seat and ball after the valve is installed and affecting the sealing performance.

Check the marking of the ball valve to ensure that the valve is fully open or fully closed (as per the design requirements), and perform several on-off operations to verify its operational flexibility.

2. Prepare installation tools and materials:

Prepare the required installation tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, etc.

According to the design requirements of the pipeline, prepare appropriate sealing gaskets, bolts, nuts and other fasteners.

3. Determine the installation position and direction:

American standard ball valves should generally be installed in the horizontal or vertical direction of the pipeline to avoid uneven force on the valve due to inclined installation.

The installation location should be convenient for operation and maintenance. At the same time, the pipeline layout and fluid flow direction should be taken into consideration to ensure that the valve can normally cut off, distribute and change the flow direction of the medium.

Ii. Precautions during Installation

1. Avoid the actuator being subjected to force:

During the installation process, it is strictly prohibited to use the actuator part of the valve as the lifting point to avoid damaging the actuator and its accessories.

2. Install the gasket and bolts correctly:

Between the flange of the ball valve and the flange of the pipeline, install an appropriate sealing gasket as per the pipeline design requirements to ensure the sealing performance.

The bolts on the flange should be tightened symmetrically, successively and evenly to avoid excessive local force, which may cause poor sealing or valve deformation. Use a torque wrench to tighten according to the torque value specified by the manufacturer.

3. Pay attention to the installation direction and position:

Ensure that the installation direction of the ball valve is consistent with the flow direction of the medium to avoid valve damage or seal failure caused by reverse installation.

The pipes near the installation point should be kept straight and must not be drooping or subjected to external forces. If necessary, pipe supports or supports can be used to eliminate the deviation of the pipeline.

4. Reserve operating space:

When installing, there should be enough space for the valve handle to rotate to ensure that the valve can be opened and closed smoothly, avoiding operational difficulties or valve damage due to insufficient space.

Iii. Inspection and Testing after installation

1. Operation test:

After the installation is completed, operate the driver to open and close the ball valve several times to check if the valve movement is flexible without any sluggishness and confirm that it is working properly.

2. Sealing performance inspection:

According to the pipeline design requirements, the sealing performance of the flange joint surface between the pipeline and the ball valve is inspected. Pressure testing or leakage detection and other methods can be adopted to ensure that the valve is well sealed and there is no leakage.

Iv. Other Precautions

1. Avoid using as throttling:

American standard ball valves are designed for fully open or fully closed states and are not suitable for use as throttle valves. Frequent throttling may cause wear of the valve seat and the ball, affecting the valve's service life and sealing performance.

2. Avoid bearing external forces:

The pipes near the installation point should be stable and avoid being lowered or subjected to external forces. Pipe supports or inclusions can be used to eliminate pipeline deviations and ensure that the connection between valves and pipes is not subjected to additional stress.
